Tomasz Bąkowski, PhD, MBA

biography

Microbiologist with a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Wrocław, with a research background in molecular biology, DNA repair mechanisms, and genome stability. His doctoral research focused on the function of a novel DNA translocase in yeast. He also completed postgraduate studies in quality management systems and food safety and has earned multiple professional certifications in management and leadership. He holds an MBA in Health and Clinical Research from Kozminski University.

He brings more than ten years of management experience from a large diversified company, where he worked across both B2B and B2C environments and led teams of various sizes. He later spent five years managing research and development projects focused on aptamer-based therapeutics and therapeutic medical devices, including innovative adsorbers designed for highly selective removal of pathogenic molecules from plasma.

As Director of Clinical Affairs and Commercialization, he oversees the advancement of the 3D-bioprinted Bionic Pancreas toward first-in-human clinical trials. He also plays a key role in the commercialization and production of innovative biomaterials, including hybrid recombinant proteins based on resilin and elastin domains, as well as silk and elastin domains, and in developing their potential applications in bioprinting, medicine, and cosmetics.

Outside of work, he is a glider pilot and an avid enduro mountain biker. His interests also include rock climbing, mountaineering, cave exploration, and music.
